About SSLHS
The Society was founded in 1951 to foster interest in local history, particularly of our own area, namely Sunbury, Shepperton, Charlton, Littleton, and Halliford.
The society is active and friendly, arranging monthly talks, creating exhibitions, and running stands at local events.
We have built up a fascinating and extensive collection of old documents, maps, photos, and postcards. Many members have used these and other materials to research the past, and this work is shared with members through the society's journals, books, and exhibitions.
It is easy to join - come along to a monthly meeting, look out for us at a local fair - check the next page for events.
History archive
We have a growing collection of historic material, which we store, catalogue, and use for research, or to create displays and exhibitions.
Members can ask for access to this archive, and also to our library of local history books.
SSLHS Publications
Members receive a regular newsletter, and the society also publishes a Journal of local history research and stories.
The society offers a great range of local history publications, from reprints of old pamphlets, diaries, and maps, through to recently researched books such as the history of local pubs, Sunbury and Shepperton in WW1, and the surprising History of Walton Bridge.
